Do you know a Senior Superstar?

Many of us are planning new goals for ourselves in 2013. It helps to have inspirational role models, to learn from their challenges and successes. That’s why we at the Enterprise have decided to run a new, regular feature profiling those among us who have more life experience we can all learn from – our senior citizens. We’ll produce and publish a special story the first week of every month in the newspaper, under the banner “Senior Superstar.”

This first senior to be profiled – on page A12 today – is Lilo Levine, a 91-year-old Saranac Laker who came here as a young tuberculosis patient, cured, stayed and has contributed greatly to community life. She has had great hardships but also possesses wisdom and knowledge from her experiences, and can inspire us to lead healthier lives.

Her whole life story is more than we can fit into a full-page article – although we’ll do our best – so if you want to talk to her in person, attend one of the many events she organizes, from movies to dinners. For instance, she will help cook a sumptuous German meal between 6 and 8:30 p.m. this Saturday at La Bella Ristorante in Saranac Lake. She will focus on recipes from the city of Bad Worishoven, Germany, and she might even play the accordion during dessert.

There are many people in the Tri-Lakes with fascinating stories to tell. If you know someone who is inspiring and whom you think might be good for us to showcase in a future Senior Superstar feature, please contact Senior Staff Writer Chris Knight at 518-891-2600 ext. 24 or
