Food pantry grateful for local support

To the editor:

Now that the rush of the holidays is over, the Board of Directors of the Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for its continued support.

This past year we saw many people who had never used the pantry before forced to reach out for help in order to feed their families. Because of the generosity of many people, we were able to respond.

So many people find a way that fits into their lives and financial status to support our mission. There is the person who gives the amount of his Social Security check because he “doesn’t need it.” There are the hot chocolate and coffee ladies who set up a table in all kinds of weather to help warm people as they wait in line. There are the farmers and vegetable growers who harvest and donate fresh produce. There are the volunteers who support the pantry in many ways: those who unload trucks, those who stock shelves, those who clean our space and those who staff the pantry and meet our clients. And it is not just individuals. There are businesses that keep us going by giving us bread, milk and reduced rent. We would not exist without each of you.

It is a testament to this community that this safety net exists. We are a small organization, but we do make a difference. We are not able to eradicate hunger around the globe. But here, in our little corner of the world, many of you ensure that your neighbors will not go hungry; you should be very proud of that.

If you would like to get involved, please call Linda Bonaduce at 518-891-0141.
