Saranac Lake basketball tops Hornets

PLATTSBURGH – The Saranac Lake boys basketball team held off Plattsburgh in the fourth quarter Thursday to record a rare win on the road against the Hornets.

The Red Storm outscored Plattsburgh 12-7 in the final quarter to secure a 54-53 victory.

Saranac Lake’s Kevin Morgan turned in a spectacular all-around performance with a triple-double that included a game-high 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Teammate Kellen Munn had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Teddy Yanchitis pulled down 10 board to go along with his nine points.

Garrett Frady led the way for the Hornets with 17 points, followed by Taoufik Maknani who had 14.

The Red Storm led 32-27 at halftime and 42-38 after three quarters.

Saranac Lake is on the road for its next game Wednesday at Northern Adirondack.


Chateaugay 35, Tupper Lake 25

TUPPER LAKE – The Chateaugay girls basketball team held Tupper Lake under 10 points in every quarter Thursday on the way to a 35-25 victory.

With the loss, Tupper Lake fell to 7-4 overall. Chateaugay is 5-1 overall.

Courtney Boyea collected 11 points, 16 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the way for the Bulldogs. Teammate Makayla Fleury had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Katie Stuart recorded a double-double for the Lumberjacks with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked five shots.


Saranac Lake 5, Canton 4

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake girls hockey team erased a 4-1 deficit with four unanswered goals on the way to a 5-4 victory over Canton on Thursday.

Trailing by three goals late in the second period, Ashley Roddy started the turnaround for the Red Storm with a goal at the 11:42 mark. The third period was all Saranac Lake as Kate Stevens, McKayla Duffy and Sydney Battistoni tallied.

Saranac Lake outshot Canton 31-27, with Katey Snyder stopping 23 shots in goal for the Red Storm.
