Bobcats roar in return from winter break

PAUL SMITHS – The Paul Smith’s College men’s basketball team returned to action Thursday night with a 72-63 victory over Northern Maine Community College.

The win put an end to a nine-game losing streak that began Nov. 12 against North Country Community College. Paul Smith’s is 3-11 overall and 3-6 in Yankee Small College Conference games.

The Bobcats trailed early, but recovered with a strong finish to the first half to take a 34-28 into the locker room. Paul Smith’s extended the lead to 15 points at one point in the second half.

“After getting off to a slow start, we picked up our defensive pressure and went on a nice run in the last seven minutes of the half,” said Paul Smith’s coach Joe Akey. “Our transition offense, which was generated from our defense, was the key during this stretch.”

Alex Medina led the way offensively for the Bobcats, pouring in 20 points. Adam Klock chipped in 14 points, while Patrick Wightman had 11 and Shiva Senthil had 10.

Northern Maine’s Sam Joy led all scorers with 25 points, followed by teammate Matt Till with 23.
