Saranac Lake holds on to beat NAC
SARANAC LAKE – In a game that went back and forth from start to finish, the Saranac Lake girls basketball team claimed a 50-47 victory over Northern Adirondack Tuesday on the Red Storm’s floor.
Senior Nicole Viscardo paced Saranac Lake with 12 points, and teammate Jennifer Ward also finished in double figures with 10. Regan Kieffer scored nine points and Katie Buckley tossed in eight for the Red Storm.
Overall, eight players got in the scoring column for Saranac Lake.
Rachael Venne had a big-time performance in a losing effort for the Bobcats with a game-high 23 points.
Saranac Lake is scheduled to be at home again Thursday against Northeastern Clinton.
Northeastern Clinton 47, Lake Placid 16
CHAMPLAIN – The Northeastern Clinton girls basketball team proved to be too much for Lake Placid, topping the Blue Bombers 47-16 Tuesday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play.
Eight players got in the scoring for the Cougars and Skyler Hebert led the way with 14.
Chloe Uebrick paced Lake Placid with eight points.
GLENS FALLS – Elena Beideck of Saranac Lake took second and Gretchen O’Leary of Tupper Lake was fourth in the Queensbury Invitational cross-country skiing event on Jan. 5 in Crandall Park.
Beideck recorded a time of 17 minutes, 38 seconds and finished just behind race winner Megan Greene of Old Forge, who crossed the line in 17:25.
Maddie Phaneuf of Old Forge was third in 17:40 and O’Leary was fourth in 17:45.
Old Forge won the varsity girls team competition with 19 total points. Saranac Lake was ninth with 81 points and Lake Placid was 19th with 217 points.
Caroline Dodd (36th, 21:53) and Camy Lieb (43rd, 22:17) also competed for Saranac Lake. Grace McGrew (52nd, 23:06), Brianna Roy (82nd, 32:26) and Elena Bushy (83rd, 32:48) rounded out the Lake Placid varsity squad.
In the varsity boys race, Scott Schultz of Lake Placid finished 11th in 31:24 and Bryce Hartman of Saranac Lake was 12th in 31:52.
Other Lake Placid skiers were Henry McGrew (20th in 32:33), Trent White (23rd in 32:58) and Curtis Rissberger (36th in 35:13).
For the Saranac Lake varsity boys, Even Greenberg was 32nd in 34:37, Haakon Pedersen was 48th in 36:16 and Max Paul was 50th in 36:21.
Brian Halligan of Saratoga won the boys race in 27:08, while Queensbury’s Ben Anderson was second in 27:46.
Anna Izzo of Saranac Lake won the junior varsity race in 19:45 and teammate Morgan Hammond was fourth in 21:06.
Eathon Wood of Saranac Lake took first place in the boys modified race crossing the line in 14:17. Hannah Brogan of Saranac Lake was second in the girls modified race with a time of 19:12.
