AMA annexation hearing tonight
SARANAC LAKE – A public hearing will be held tonight on the proposed annexation of the American Management Association campus into the village.
Hosted by the village and the town of St. Armand, the hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall auditorium.
During the hearing, people will be able to make comments or submit documents on the proposed annexation of AMA’s 65 acres. A court reporter will be on hand to record the testimony.
Following the hearing, each board has 90 days to determine, by a simple majority vote, whether the petition complies with the law and whether annexation is in the overall public interest.
AMA, which provides management training courses and seminars, has 140 workers and is one of the area’s largest employers. AMA officials have said they want to be annexed because they believe being in the village, and being able to use its planning and economic development services, will boost the prospects of developing unused buildings and vacant land on their property.
Village officials have been pushing for annexation of AMA for close to two years. Mayor Clyde Rabideau has said it could grow more jobs and increase the tax base in the village.
The St. Armand town board has yet to go on record either for or against annexation.
