NYSEF jumpers head to 108th Norge Ski Club Winter Invitational

LAKE PLACID – Six young ski jumpers are competing this weekend in the biggest event of their young careers, and they’ve headed to the midwest for the event.

Traveling with coach Larry Stone, the jumpers are 13- to 15-year-olds from the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) development group who are in Fox River Grove, Ill. for the 108th Norge Ski Club Winter Invitational.

The junior jumpers departed from their home hill at the Olympic Jump Complex late Wednesday afternoon on a drive that took them to the venue, which is just outside of Chicago. The Fox River Grove site includes a number of hills of varying sizes, including a 70-meter hill, which will be the biggest jump the young skiers will have tackled so far. The competitions will take place today and Sunday and will feature between 70 and 80 athletes.

Five of the NYSEF jumpers hail from Lake Placid and are Gabby Armstrong, Karl Schulz, Landon Livreri, Trent White and Beckett Ledger. AJ King, of Andover, N.H. is also on the trip.

Three other older jumpers who learned to soar in Lake Placid through the NYSEF program are currently competing in the Midwest on the U.S. Cup tour and will also be participating at the Norge Ski Club event. They are Evan Bliss, Miles Lussi and Luke Daniels.
