Norma J. Longo
ONCHIOTA – Word has been received of the death of Norma J. Longo, 83, of Onchiota, who died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Halifax Health Hospice.
Born in New York City on Aug. 16, 1929, she was the daughter of Mack and Flora (Ransom) Swinyer. She married Carmelo Longo on March 9, 1972.
Norma graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1945 and SUNY at Albany in 1949. Norma taught school at the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School in Selkirk from 1956 to 1986. She moved to Onchiota in 1990 and was a volunteer at the Adirondack Medical Center. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and quilting, and her flower gardens.
She is survived by her husband Carmelo Longo of Onchiota; one son, Thomas Norris Jr. of Cassopolis, Mich.; four step children: Terri Biel of Voorheesville, Christopher Longo of Annapolis, Md., Mark Longo of Voorheesville and Roberta Princiotto of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, Sheridan Swinyer of Bloomingdale and Mack Swinyer of Inlet, S.C;, and sister Faye Humus of Conway, S.C. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and her daughter Lynn Luke.
Local arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place in May at a time to be announced at the Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
