Knights nip Saranac Lake boys hoops
PLATTSBURGH – The Saranac Lake boys basketball team dropped another close game Thursday night, falling 55-54 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference matchup against Seton Catholic.
The Knights rallied in the second half and capped it off when Nic Favreau hit a free throw with 34 seconds left on the clock.
The Red Storm had three players reach double digits in scoring. Kellen Munn collected 19 points and 10 rebounds, Teddy Yanchitis scored 14 points and Thomas Lester hit for 12. Kevin Morgan chipped in six points and Devin Cowan had three to round out Saranac Lake’s scoring.
Adam Tedford paced Seton Catholic with 17 points, while Keagen Briggs and Chris Kustos had 10 points apiece.
The Red Storm jumped out to an early 20-12 lead after the first quarter, but Seton Catholic battled back with a 12-11 advantage in the second and 19-12 in the third.
Saranac Lake returns to action Wednesday at home against Saranac Central.
Saranac 61, Lake Placid 21
SARANAC – The Saranac Central girls basketball team had nine different players reach the scoring column Thursday on the way to a 61-21 victory over Lake Placid.
Adele Jesmer scored nine points to lead the Blue Bombers, who fell behind 23-2 after the first quarter and 42-12 by halftime,
Saranac’s Allison Fink led all scorers with 11 points, followed by teammate Brittany O’Connell with nine.
