Governor wastes tax money
To the editor:
The following is a plea to everyone who want what’s going on in Albany stopped. I am sending the following letter; if you agree with me, I urge you to write to the governor expressing your indignation.
Don’t just copy my letter. Form letters are basically ignored by all politicians. Take my ideas, and write the letter in your own words, expressing your frustration. Let your anger come through.
We can’t let the governor get away with this gross waste.
The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
Dear Governor Cuomo:
While many of your decisions are disappointing, I find that I am especially revolted to know that there are 99 employees at the NYS Thruway Authority with salaries in excess of $100,000. What makes this even worse is the fact that most of them are political appointments made to thank supporters. It is also hypocritical for you to claim you are working to reduce spending while wasting $14,850,000.
This wasted expenditure works out to $34,295 per mile, using an average salary of $150,000. Ninety-nine employees works out to one person for every 4.38 miles of Thruway.
What is even more embarrassing is the fact that the authority is proposing to cut staff. No one earning more than six figures will be cut. Only the staff that interacts with the public for the safe, efficient operation of the highway will be let go. Shame on the authority for taking such actions, and the fact that you are allowing it to happen is disgraceful.
It is sad that you are lying to the public by claiming that your proposed budget will save New Yorkers. Your budget simply passes the cost of transportation, education and other mandates on to the local tax districts or to taxpayers through increased fees. Whether paid directly through tolls or through increased transportation costs which will be passed on to the consumer, the New York state taxpayers will absorb this waste of $14,850,000 just as if it were a direct tax on them.
While I understand that one letter to you is worthless, I’m hoping that somehow the public learns of this waste and will rise up and demand that you take corrective action.
Upset and frustrated,
