Politi named Creative Healing Connection’s 2013 Mad Hatter

LAKE PLACID – Cancer survivor and North Elba Supervisor Roby Politi has accepted the distinctive honor of being named Creative Healing Connections’ Mad Hatter for 2013.

The Mad Hatter’s Ball is an annual celebration to raise money for scholarships to arts and healing retreats offered by the group.

“This important local organization provides much needed support for veterans and neighbors dealing with cancer,” Politi said. “As a cancer survivor I know the significance of having a support group along with a caring community.”

Creative Healing Connections is a nonprofit agency serving women with cancer and chronic illness, caregivers, veterans and military families. The organization’s mission is to provide creative experiences that promote healing and growth.

New board president Gail Doering, a museum arts and historical sites administrator from Saratoga Springs, said, “Creative Healing Connections is doing exciting things this year, including a retreat for military families co-sponsored with Homeward Bound Adirondacks at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, a retreat for caregivers to be held at Valcour Conference Center near Plattsburgh, a showing of the Oscar-nominated documentary “Invisible No More” at Lake Placid Center for the Arts in May, two healing retreats for women veterans and one for female military spouses and partners at Wiawaka Holiday House on Lake George, as well as our traditional, well-loved Arts and Healing Retreats at Great Camp Sagamore.”

“We are committed to helping everyone who needs financial aid to attend, but we can’t do that without fundraising,” said Martha Spear, the organization’s executive director.

In previous years, the Mad Hatter’s Ball has been held at BluSeed Studios in Saranac Lake. This year, the event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 21 at the Heaven Hill Farm in Lake Placid.

The event features live jazz, great local food, a “Best Hat” competition and a silent auction.
