Hornets sweep Storm for CVAC girls title
PLATTSBURGH – The Plattsburgh girls basketball team beat Saranac Lake for the second time in as many nights Tuesday with a 50-37 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory.
The two teams turned in a similar result Monday night in Saranac Lake, with the Hornets walking away with a 53-34 win. The home-and-home series was bunched together due to postponements earlier in the season.
Tuesday’s victory gave Plattsburgh the CVAC Division 1 regular season title. The Hornets and Beekmantown each finished with matching 14-2 records, but Plattsburgh was awarded the title as a result of a tiebreaker advantage.
Plattsburgh jumped out to a 24-14 lead after two quarters Tuesday, but the Red Storm battled back with a 17-12 advantage in the third. The Hornets put the game away with a 14-6 fourth quarter run.
Saranac Lake senior Nicole Viscardo netted nine of her team-high 15 points in the third. Regan Kieffer chipped in eight points.
Marle Curle was the leading scorer on the night with 28 points, nine of which came on 3-pointers.
The Red Storm (10-7) round out their regular season schedule Thursday on the road at Peru.
Moriah 46, Lake Placid 8
PORT HENRY – The Moriah girls basketball team took a 30-point halftime lead Tuesday on the way to a 46-8 victory over Lake Placid.
Madison Stahl scored 16 points and Taylor Sprague added 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Vikings.
Hanna Potter scored five points for the Blue Bombers.
