DEC opens trail between Inlet, Raqutte Lake
ALBANY (AP) – Conservation officials have opened a nearly 13-mile recreational trail between the communities of Inlet and Raquette Lake in New York’s North Country.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says the trail through the Moose River Plains Wild Forest in Hamilton County is for snowmobiles, hiking and cycling, and can be used year-round.
The opening of the coincides with the closure of 46 miles of snowmobile trails in more remote areas of the forest.
The agency also reclassified 15,000 acres of Moose River Plains Wild Forest as wilderness, with about 2 miles of road closed to motor vehicles.
