Two dead in Canton two-car collision
CANTON – Two men died after a car lost control and struck another Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m., Theron H. Butterfield, 81, of Potsdam, was driving west on Morley-Potsdam Road in the town of Canton in a 1998 Chevrolet, according to a state police press release. Butterfield lost control of his vehicle on slush-covered roads and slid sideways into the path of an eastbound 2003 Dodge being operated by Larry A. Felt, 48, of Canton.
Butterfield’s vehicle was struck on the passenger side where passenger Thomas T. Butterfield, 51, of Canton, was sitting.
Police said Thomas T. Butterfield died at the scene, and Theron H. Butterfield was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Felt was uninjured in the collision.
Canton Fire and Rescue, along with Morley Fire Department, responded to the scene.
The Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation along with troopers and investigators from the State Police in Canton.
