Chiefs get past Saranac Lake in quarterfinals
SARANAC – The Saranac Lake girls basketball season came to an end Tuesday with a 46-34 loss to Saranac Central in the Section VII, Class B quarterfinals.
The Chiefs scored 13 points in each of the first two quarters to take control of the game with a 26-14 halftime advantage. The Red Storm cut into the lead with an 11-8 third quarter, but Saranac pulled away in the fourth.
Senior Regan Kieffer led the way offensively for Saranac Lake with 11 points, six of which came from behind the three-point line. Teammate Megan Moody chipped in seven and Nicole Viscardo had five.
Saranac got points from a variety of sources, led by Tori Trim’s 12 and Emma Newell’s 11. Kaitlyn Bowman had six points and 11 rebounds and Summer Gillespie scored seven points.
With the win, the Chiefs advanced to the semifinals where they will face Beekmantown on Friday.
Ticonderoga 41, Lake Placid 23
TICONDEROGA – After a low-scoring first quarter, the Ticonderoga girls basketball team exploded for 18 points in the second to take control of what became a 41-23 Section VII, Class C quarterfinals victory over Lake Placid on Tuesday.
Hanna Potter paced the Blue Bombers with 11 points, while teammate Julianna Matos hit for six.
Ticonderoga’s Andrea Rich was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points.
The Sentinels advanced to the Thursday’s semifinals to play AuSable Valley.
