Colton man charged with ring, silver theft
SARANAC LAKE – A Colton man was arrested Monday for stealing an expensive diamond ring and other valuables from a local home.
Corey A. Bishop, 41, was arrested by village police at 2 p.m. Monday. He was charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony.
Police Chief Bruce Nason said Bishop allegedly stole a diamond ring valued at $11,800, two sterling silver egg cups, a silver picture frame and other silver items from a local residence. Nason said the thefts occurred sometime between June 2011 and January 2012, although he said police believe they took place in November 2011.
Bishop allegedly knew the person whose home was burglarized, although Nason declined to say how. He said there was no forced entry at the residence.
Nason said Bishop sold some of the silver items, and they have since been melted down. Police are still following leads to determine what happened to the diamond ring.
Bishop was arraigned in village court and remanded to the Essex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
