Long Lake man dies in car crash

LONG LAKE – This small community reeled Saturday as residents awoke to the news that a local young man had died in a car crash early that morning.

Thom Ross, 22, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Jonathan Herrick, a state police sergeant stationed at Tupper Lake’s barracks, told the Enterprise Saturday that the incident was reported to 911 at 2:33 a.m. that morning. Ross was driving his 2007 Ford Focus north on Deerland Road, near Emerson Road, when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, Herrick said.

Ross was the only person in the car, which was found on its roof in an embankment on the side of the road, Herrick said.

An autopsy done at Miller Funeral Home in Indian Lake found that Ross died from severe head trauma and internal injuries, state Trooper Reinaldo Alvarez said this morning.

Police said they’re still investigating details such as how the crash happened, how many times the car overturned, where Ross was coming from and going, and the cause of the crash.

Services for Ross have been set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry’s Church in Long Lake.
