Brewery hosts Lake Placid Snommegang

LAKE PLACID – Brewery Ommegang, a Belgian-style brewery located in Cooperstown, hosted its third annual Snommegang Sweepstakes event here on March 7 to 10.

Ten grand prize winners, each with a guest, were treated to a weekend of winter activities and Ommegang beer and some surprisingly warm weather.

The event began on Thursday evening with a meet-and-greet for the winners and Ommegang staff, as well as members of the Ommegang and Duvel USA sales teams and beverage distributors from surrounding states. Friday and Saturday were spent on the slopes at Whiteface Mountain or enjoying one of the many outdoor adventures that Lake Placid has to offer. Guests had a variety of attractions and events to chose from including visiting Olympic sites, cross country skiing, toboggan, bobsled and dogsled rides and visiting downtown Lake Placid for shopping and cuisine.

On Friday night, guests dined on a four-course beer pairing dinner at The Whiteface Lodge. Friday festivities continued with a live musical performance by Mary Doherty at The Cottage.

Snommegang ended with a rare beer tasting and food and beer pairing seminar with Ommegang Brewmaster Phil Leinhart, Kate Smalls who heads Ommegang’s Great Beer Deserves Great Food program, and Chef Tim Loomis from Lake Placid’s Liquids and Solids at the Handlebar. The Beard Awards are the highest honors awarded to food and beverage professionals in North America.
