Trash fire at transfer station extinguished

TUPPER LAKE – Firefighters knocked down a trash fire at the local transfer station Saturday morning.

“It was fairly quick and easy,” said Joe Cormier Jr., secretary of the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

Two trucks and 20 men responded to the fire at 9:48 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived on the scene at 131 Big Wolf Road, the contents of a large dumpster were on fire. Cormier said it seemed to be a mixture of construction debris and trash.

Firefighters used 2,500 gallons of water and 7 gallons of foam to extinguish the blaze. They used pipe poles to access the pieces of trash that were on fire.

The dumpster was moved away from any buildings, so there was no chance of the fire spreading, Cormier said.

Firefighters were back in service at 11:44 a.m.
