Carder named first-team All-American

SARANAC LAKE – Steven Carder, North Country Community College’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, earned another accolade recently when he was selected as a National Junior College Athletic Association first-team All-American.

Carder, a Champlain native who graduated from Northeastern Clinton high school, finished his two-year NCCC career with 1,246 points and 652 rebounds. He was named player of the year in the Mountain Valley Conference, player of the year in Region III and Junior College player of the year by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.

“There is no doubt that Steven will forever be known as one of the finest young men to ever wear a Saints uniform,” said North Country coach Chad LaDue.

Carder will participate in the NJCAA National Men’s Basketball All-Star game in Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on May 11. He will be joined by 29 other players from around the country in Las Vegas.

“We are so very proud of the athletic department, coach LaDue and the incredible season the men’s basketball team had,” said Steve Tyrell, President of North Country Community College. “It was spectacular play at every game. Steven’s accomplishments were a big part of the team’s success and the All-American award is icing on the cake.”

Carder, a sports and events management major, will take his talents to Buffalo next year to play for Division II Daemen College on a full scholarship.
