‘Celtic Carnival’ next February
SARANAC LAKE – You could call it a warmup for St. Patrick’s Day.
The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee, at its meeting Wednesday, picked “Celtic Carnival” as the theme for the 2014 Carnival.
The Celtic theme was one of five that were generated at the committee’s March meeting. The others were “Adirondack Fiesta,” “Age of Aquarius (the 1960s),” “Ancient Egypt” and “Wizards and Dragons in the Mountains.”
“When paring down the theme ideas, committee members weighed a number of factors, including whether a theme could fit well in the parade and the construction of the Ice Palace, and generate suitable music for the slide show and the myriad of festivities during the 10-day-long event,” reads a statement posted on the Carnival website. “They also took into consideration several polls taken throughout the community, such as the online poll sponsored by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.”
The “Celtic Carnival” theme collected 32 percent of the 1,039 votes in the Enterprise poll, followed by “Adirondack Fiesta” with 21 percent, “Wizards and Dragons in the Mountains” with 19 percent, “Age of Aquarius” at 15 percent and “Ancient Egypt” with 11 percent.
The 117th Saranac Lake Winter Carnival will take place from Jan. 31 to Feb. 9, 2014.
