Lake Placid Elementary School principal to leave at year’s end
LAKE PLACID – Administrative turnover continues at the Lake Placid Central School District with word Monday that elementary school Principal Javier Perez will step down at the end of the school year.
The district announced in a press release that Perez recently submitted his letter of resignation. Perez has accepted the position of high school principal in the AuSable Valley Central School District, where he lives.
“It is anticipated that the Lake Placid Board of Education will formally accept the resignation at their regular meeting on May 7, 2013,” the release said. “In the meantime, the position is posted as an anticipated vacancy and the district will use a search process similar to the one recently used for the Middle and High School Principal positions which involved several community members.”
The release also said the “district is appreciative of Mr. Perez’s leadership as both Elementary Principal and Director of Special Education during his two years with the district.” School board President Mary Dietrich echoed that sentiment in an email to the Enterprise.
“(We) wish him all the best in his new position,” she wrote.
Dietrich said the board hasn’t had a chance to discuss the upcoming vacancy, but she hopes a new elementary principal will be in place by July 1.
The board expects to appoint two new principals at its May 7 meeting: one at the middle school and one at the high school. At the end of the school year, Superintendent Randy Richards will part ways with the district and Roger Catania will take over his job.
