Blue Bombers golf wins another

PERU – The Lake Placid golf team improved to 2-0 with a 6-0 victory over Beekmantown on Monday at Adirondack Golf Club.

Blue Bombers sophomore Kiefer Casler was the low scorer on the day with a 41 that included four pars and no double bogeys. Teammate Lucas Strack wasn’t far behind with his 42.

Ryan Kane was the next-best Lake Placid golfer, carding a 46. Miles Lussi shot 48, Pat Kane shot 49 and Troy Jacques finished with a 57.

Tyler Begor turned in Beekmantown’s lowest score with a 50 in the No. 1 spot.

Lake Placid will host Saranac Lake at Craig Wood Golf Course on Wednesday.

Saranac Lake 6, Seton Catholic 0

RAY BROOK – The Saranac Lake golf team got back to its winning ways Monday with a 6-0 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Seton Catholic on its home Saranac Lake Golf Club course.

The Red Storm came into the season without having lost a regular season league match over the previous two years, then dropped their opener against Northeastern Clinton. Saranac Lake left no doubt on Monday, though, with an overall score 91 strokes better than Seton Catholic.

Junior Dustin Fischer was the low scorer on the day with a 37 that included three birdies. He beat his opponent, Adam Tedford, by 18 strokes in the No. 2 position.

Ethan Sawyer was the Red Storm’s second-best golfer with a 40 at No. 1, followed Carley Sawyer who shot a 41 to beat Joe Templin’s 68 in the No. 6 spot.

Other winners for Saranac Lake were Blake Gregory (43), Teddy Yanchitis (48) and Austin Ecret (47).

The Red Storm had a total score of 256, while Seton Catholic totaled 347.


Potsdam 18,

Saranac Lake 8

SARANAC LAKE – A tough season continued for the Saranac Lake boys lacrosse team Monday, as visiting Potsdam claimed an 18-8 victory to sweep the Red Storm in two matches played this spring.

The Sandstoners rolled to a 10-2 halftime lead and added eight more goals in the second half to seal the win.

Junior Jeff Stevens and senior Quinn Urquhart led Saranac Lake with three goals each and Seth Pickreign and Oliver Holmes each found the back of the net once in a losing effort. Stevens, Pickreign, Holmes and James Murnane also notched an assist apiece for Saranac Lake, with fell to 2-6 in Section X play.

Saranac Lake next plays on the road Wednesday against undefeated Section X powerhouse Salmon River.



Lake Placid 3, Plattsburgh 2


Plattsburgh 5, Lake Placid 0

LAKE PLACID – Georgia O’Leary and Joan O’Leary won their singles matches and the double team of Sophie Morrelli and Kayla Hudson won their match Monday as the Lake Placid girls tennis team edged Plattsburgh 3-2.

The Plattsburgh boys team swept the Blue Bombers 5-0.

Georgia O’Leary won her first singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Marle Curle. Joan O’Leary downed Kelsey Senecal 6-4, 6-4 at second singles. At third singles, Victoria O’Leary lost her first game in a tiebreaker and was blanked in the second set for a final tally of 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

Morrelli and Hudson won their second doubles match 6-3, 6-0, while the Lake Placid first doubles team of Brenna Garret and Liza Marinis lost 6-4, 6-3 to Emily Kneifel and Ashley Marlow.

In the boys match, Justin Stosiek went to three sets with Brendan Whalen at third singles. Whalen won the first set 6-3, but Stosiek responded to win the second set with a tiebreaker. Whalen secured the victory with a 6-0 third set.

At second doubles, Haile Thompson and Michael Morrison hung in there but dropped their match against Matt Bracy and Guillermo Saguar-Urquiola, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.


Norwood-Norfolk 13, Tupper Lake 2

TUPPER LAKE – Tupper Lake senior Keegan Bombard went 3-for-3 on Monday, but it wasn’t enough as Norwood-Norfolk walked away with a 13-2 victory.

With the win, the Flyers continued their undefeated season, improving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Northern Athletic Conference games. Tupper Lake is 1-3.

Cody Smith went 4-for-5 and Cody Rust went 3-for-3 to lead Norwood-Norfolk.
