Tupper Lake Medical Office Building earns design honors

Adirondack Health was presented with the Adirondack Park Excellence in Building Design award for its Medical Office Building located in Tupper Lake.

The first-place award in the “new residential/commercial building” category was made during the Adirondack Park Local Government Day Conference held April 24-25.

Opened in 2010, the Tupper Lake Medical Office Building is home to a modern and spacious health center, medical imaging and laboratory services as well as office space for visiting specialty physicians and a private primary care practice.

The building was designed by the architectural firm MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health.

The company is a full service architecture firm committed exclusively to the design of healthcare facilities. With offices in Williston, Vt.; Boston, Mass.; and Portland, Maine; MorrisSwitzer provides architectural, master planning, interior design and programming services. MorrisSwitzer has been ranked as one of the nation’s top 50 healthcare design firms by Modern Healthcare.

According to the judging panel for the design contest, “the Medical Office Building embodies the goals of smart growth in its village location and enhancement of an urban style streetscape. This it does with an innovative design that draws upon and is respectful of familiar Adirondack architecture.”

The Medical Office Building was part of a broader construction and renovation project that began in 2008 to enhance primary care and long term care services at the Mercy Living Center for the community of and those surrounding Tupper Lake.
