Beaudoin wins three for SL track team

PERU – Alex Beaudoin won three events for the boys team, while Vanessa Salamy and Blair Moody each won twice for the girls as the Saranac Lake track and field teams swept Peru in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference dual meet.

The Saranac Lake boys won by a score of 73-50. The girls won 70-62.

Beaudoin, a senior, took first place in the 100 with a time of 11.7 seconds, then came back to win the 200 in 23.0 and the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 9 inches.

Another Red Storm senior, Craig Leahy, swept the hurdles, winning the 110 hurdles in 18.9 and the 400 in 1:02.2.

On the girls’ side, Salamy won the 100 in 13.9 and the 400 hurdles in 1:15.5. Moody finished first in the 100 hurdles (17.3) and the long jump (14-7).

OGDENSBURG – Tupper Lakers Madi Fortier, Tess Klossner, Hannah Klossner and Samantha Ormsby each won individual events Tuesday as the Lumberjacks took on Ogdensburg and Madrid-Waddington in dual meets.

The girls team lost 166-90 to Madrid-Waddington and 169-94 to Ogdensburg. The Tupper Lake boys also dropped their team scoring matchups, 186-29 against Ogdensburg and 162-31 to Madrid-Waddington.

Fortier won two events, taking the 100-meter race in 13.10 seconds and finishing in a dead heat in the 200 with a time of 28.40. She and Taylor Lenney of Madrid-Waddington crossed the finish line together in the 200.

Tess Klossner won the 400 in 1:05.60, edging Fortier who finished second in 1:06.10.

Hannah Klossner won the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 10 inches, and was second in the triple jump (28-10) and the 800 (2:45.80). Cassidy Scott of Madrid-Waddington won the 800 in 2:38.

Ormsby won two events after jumping 14-10 in the long jump and 31-00.25 in the triple jump.

Kate Zurek was second in the shot put with a throw of 34-00.5, trailing Madrid-Waddington’s Katie Marcellus with a 34-5.5.

Daniel Shaheen recorded the top Tupper Lake boys finish with a third place in the 800 (2:22.50). Austin Scott of Madrid-Waddington won the event in 2:02.6 and Collin Sovie of Ogdensburg was second in 2:16.60.

PLATTSBURGH – Lake Placid senior Kendra Manning was a four-time winner Tuesday as the Blue Bombers girls team beat Seton Catholic 72-48 in a track and field dual meet.

Individually, Manning took first place in the 100 with a time of 14.1 seconds and won the 200 in 28.9. She then joined Gabby Armstrong, Jillian Goulette and Rachael Ashley to win the 400 relay (58.4) and the 1,600 relay (4:34.2).

Esther Munoz did her part for Lake Placid sweeping the throwing events with a 60-7 heave in the discus and a 23-9 in the shot put.

Nzoni Thompson was a three-time winner for the Blue Bombers’ boys, winning the long jump (18-2.5) and the 200 (25.4), then joining Connor Garrett, Stuart Baird and Curtis Rissberger to take first place in the 400 relay.

Lake Placid senior Corey Detwiler was the top jumper in the triple jump after landing a 31-3 .

Seton Catholic’s Evan Page had four wins (1,600, 800, 3,200 relay and 1,600 relay.
