O’Leary sisters sweep singles
BEEKMANTOWN – The O’Leary sisters got the ball rolling and the Lake Placid doubles teams followed suit Wednesday as the Blue Bombers secured a 5-0 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Beekmantown.
Georgia O’Leary, a junior, won her first singles match 6-2, 6-2 over Olivia Wyand and Victoria O’Leary, an eighth-grader, won her third singles match 6-0, 6-0. Joan O’Leary, a senior, had a tougher time in her match, winning both sets in 8-6 tiebreakers.
Brenna Garrett and Kayla Hudson made quick work of their opponents with a 6-0, 6-1 win at first doubles and Liza Marinis and Sophie Morrelli won 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles.
“So far, we’ve had good experiences with sportsmanship with all our opposing teams,” said Lake Placid coach Jennifer Lawrence, “but I was just extremely impressed with what a good atmosphere Beekmantown created from coach Michele Lamontagne down through all her players.”
Lake Placid 7, Moriah 4
PORT HENRY – The Lake Placid softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday to take control of a 7-4 victory over Moriah.
The Blue Bombers held a 4-3 lead going into the seventh, then took a 7-3 into the bottom of the frame.
Alexis Megliore and Taylor Maiorca each had two singles for Lake Placid and teammate Adele Jesmer had a double.
Brooke Reid went the distance for the pitching victory, while her teammates went errorless in the field behind her.
Lauren Brace went 4-for-4 with a home run to lead the way for the Vikings.
