Saranac Lake softball breaks out against NCCS

SARANAC LAKE – Sydney Battistoni, Nicole Viscardo, Megan Kilroy and Jordy McDougall each went 3-for-4 to lead the Saranac Lake softball team in a strong offensive outburst and a 10-1 victory over Northeastern Clinton on Monday.

Battistoni, a senior, hit a home run, a triple and a single on her way to collecting three RBI. Viscardo and Kilroy had two RBI apiece.

Brittany Tschirhart and Viscardo took care of the pitching duties for the Red Storm. Tschirhart picked up the victory after striking out three over five innings of work.

Saranac Lake took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, then poured it on with two in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Emily Boyer led the way for Northeastern Clinton with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate.

Saranac Lake improved to 8-1 with the win.

Ticonderoga 7, Lake Placid 6 (9 innings)

LAKE PLACID – The Ticonderoga softball team scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the ninth inning as the Sentinels got past Lake Placid 7-6 on Monday.

The Blue Bombers carried a 4-1 advantage through three innings, but Ticonderoga tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth. The Sentinels took a 6-4 lead with a run in the sixth and another in the top of the seventh.

Lake Placid evened the score with one out in the bottom of the seventh when senior Serina Hayes blasted a two-run home run. The Blue Bombers had three more singles in the inning, but were unable to plate the winning run as the game went into extra innings.

Jaelyn Granger scored the game-winning run in the ninth, brought in by the bunt of Jordan McKee. Lake Placid couldn’t muster a run in the bottom of the ninth and had to settle for the loss.

Taylor Maiorca, Lizzie Bimonte and Kelsey Taylor each had two hits to lead the Blue Bombers offensively. Hayes went the distance in the pitcher’s circle and struck out 10 batters in the process.

Andrea Rich and Granger each went 2-for-5 for Ticonderoga.

Chateaugay 20, Tupper Lake 3

TUPPER LAKE – The Chateaugay softball team scored 12 runs in the second inning to take command of a five-inning, 20-3 victory over Tupper Lake on Monday.

The Lumberjacks scored all three of their runs in the fifth. Freshman catcher Sidney Kulzer had a strong game for Tupper Lake.

Courtney Boyea, Abby Barnes and Hannah Cook each had three hits for the Bulldogs, who are 4-4 overall on the season.

Tupper Lake is 0-10.


Peru 3, Lake Placid 3 (Peru wins tiebreaker 171-174)

PERU – The Lake Placid golf team suffered its second tiebreaker loss of the season Monday as Peru’s total score was three strokes better than the Blue Bombers.

Lake Placid lost its rivaly match last Thursday when Saranac Lake escaped with a 174-175 tiebreaker victory at Craig Wood Golf Club. Peru got the win Monday with a 171-174 advantage at the Adirondack Golf Club.

Peru’s Jordan Guay was the low-scorer on the day with a 39 to beat Lake Placid’s No. 1 Kiefer Casler, who shot the Blue Bombers’ low score of the day with a 41.

Lake Placid’s Miles Lussi won his match at No. 2 with a 44. Ryan Kane won his match at No. 4 with a 42 and Bjorn Kroes was the Blue Bombers’ third winner with his 48 in the No. 5 spot.

Lake Placid is now 3-2 on the season and will play at AuSable Valley on Wednesday.

LAKE PLACID – Georgia O’Leary, Victoria O’Leary and Joan O’Leary made quick work of their opponents without dropping a game as the Lake Placid girls cruised 5-0 past AuSable Valley.

The boys won their match 5-0 after sweeping the singles and winning the doubles by forfeit. Steven Jelinek, Keegan Barney and Justin Stosiek were winners for the Blue Bombers.

The closest match of the day came in the girls’ second doubles. Sophie Morrelli and Kayla Hudson secured the three-set victory 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.


Saranac Lake 14, Salmon River 10

SARANAC LAKE – After starting off the season with a 1-4 record, the Saranac Lake girls lacrosse team finds itself on a bit of a roll. On Monday, the Red Storm won their third straight game with a 14-10 victory over Salmon River.

The victory gave Saranac Lake a season sweep of the Shamrocks that included a 10-3 triumph in Lake Placid Wednesday.

Kylie Sapone, Bridget Sullivan and Kaliegh Woodruff had powerful performances to lead the Red Storm, who are now 4-4 in Section X action. Sapone scored four goals and had three assists, Sullivan found the back of the net six times and Woodruff buried three shots. Kennedy Snyder also scored once for Saranac Lake and Elena Beideck added an assist.

Katey Snyder recorded 11 saves in the Red Storm nets.

Monday’s victory followed a 9-6 Red Storm win over Ogdensburg on Saturday. Sullivan paved the way in that game with four goals, and Sapone added three goals. Beideck and Rita Munn chipped in one goal each, and Katey Snyder made nine saves in goal.

The Red Storm will play the Northwood School Wednesday in a non-league game.
