Lake Placid High School will host spring concert Wednesday

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid High School Music Department will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Lake Placid High School auditorium.

The concert will feature performances by the LPHS band, chorus, Jazz Band and Women’s Ensemble. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

The LPHS Band, under the direction of Zachary Moser, will play works by Vaughan Williams, Hazzard, Galante, Bernotas, and Nelhybel. Their selections represent standards in band literature as well as a transcription of “O Nata Lux,” a traditional choral work, and modern original works for band.

The Lake Placid High School Jazz Ensemble will perform big-band classics by Ellington and Strayhorn and an original arrangement of a popular song by the band, “Muse”.

The Women’s Ensemble will perform a selection by Libby Larsen, whose “Today, This Spring” was performed by the Ensemble at the NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival last weekend. The Ensemble was awarded a perfect score for their performance.

The Lake Placid High School Chorus, under the direction of Kimberly Weems and accompanied by Kathryn Cross, will perform a diverse selection of works from traditional pieces by Palestrina, Alice Parker and Robert Shaw to modern compositions by Stephen Schwartz and Leonard Cohen. The compositions will feature cello accompaniment by Brian Donat of Ticonderoga and Caroline Dodd of Saranac Lake. The Chorus will finish the concert with a medley of songs from the popular musical and film, “Les Miserable.”
