School budgets, candidates up for votes today

Voters in four local school districts head to the polls today to decide the fate of proposed budgets for 2013-14 and pick new school board members.

Tupper Lake Central

School District

School board: Three candidates running for two seats – incumbent John Hopkinson (appointed to the board last year), Richard Preston and Jennifer Tufano

Saranac Lake Central

School District

Tax levy increase: 3.67 percent over the current year

Total spending: $28,080,442, a 2.91 percent increase

School board: Four candidates running for two seats – incumbents Esther Arlan and Clyde Baker, and challengers Shir Filler and Tracey Schrader

Keene Central School

Tax levy increase: 3.5 percent over the current year

Total spending: $5,564,347, a 4 percent increase

School board: Three candidates running for two seats – Ann Whitney, Heather Odell and John Haverlick
