Troop B will honor fallen soldier-trooper on Memorial Day
RAY BROOK – New York State Police Troop B will honor one of its own at Memorial Day services this week.
Troop B’s annual service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the state police headquarters in Ray Brook. A memorial stone will be placed in memory of Trooper Peter J. Formosa.
Formosa joined the Division of State Police on July 1, 1940, and had been assigned to the Massena and Malone barracks. In 1941, he took a leave of absence and was inducted into the U.S. Army. On Jan. 13, 1943, he was fatally injured operating a reconnaissance car while on duty as a military police staff sergeant for the 826th Guard Squadron in Hempstead, Long Island. Formosa died at the age of 29.
