Bombers golf drops another tiebreaker

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid golf team suffered yet another Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tiebreaker loss Wednesday, this time falling 173-180 to Plattsburgh at Craig Wood Golf Course.

The Blue Bombers have lost three matches this season, and all three have been after tying the head-to-head scoring 3-3. The tiebreaker is determined by total strokes of the top four players on each team.

Lake Placid finished the regular season with a 7-3 record, and will compete in today’s Section VII meet that starts at 9 a.m.

Pat Kane, Ryan Kane and Lucas Strack recorded wins for the Blue Bombers against Plattsburgh. Pat Kane carded the team’s low score with a 43 from the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Strack shot a 45 and Ryan Kane turned in a47.

Plattsburgh’s Matt Evans was the day’s medalist with a 41, beating Bjorn Kroes of Lake Placid who shot a 45 in the No. 5 spot.

Nick Dodd shot a 43 at No. 1 and Andre Poirier shot 43 at No. 2 to record the Hornets’ other wins.


Massena 21, Saranac Lake 9

MASSENA – The Saranac Lake girls lacrosse season came to an end Wednesday with a 21-9 loss to Massena a Section X, Class C semifinal game.

Kaileigh Woodruff closed out her senior season with four goals and freshman Bridgit Sullivan connected for three to lead the Red Storm offensively.

Saranac Lake, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, finished with a 6-8 record. The Red Storm advanced to Wednesday’s game with a 9-8 win over Ogdensburg.

Top-seeded Massena advanced to today’s championship game against second-seeded Canton, a 13-9 winner over Heuvelton. Alisha Jacobs and Shannon Casey each scored four goals for the Red Raiders, who improved to 14-3 overall.
