Craft beer tasting success

To the editor:

Literacy Volunteers of Essex/Franklin Counties hosted a craft beer tasting event on May 18 at the picturesque Heaven Hill Farm in Lake Placid. This event was successful, and all who attended enjoyed the evening immensely. This fun evening raised more than $1,300, and all proceeds will be used to support Literacy Volunteers’ Adult Literacy Programs in Essex and Franklin counties.

Not only did the event include beverages, but it also consisted of trivia questions, raffle items and beautiful music played by Colleen Blanchard. Furthermore, it allowed the audience to hear a wide variety of student writing pieces read aloud by Literacy Volunteers’ board members.

We would like to thank Heidi Roland and Heaven Hill Farm for allowing Literacy Volunteers to use its facility. We’d also like to thank the following breweries for participating in this event: Adirondack Brewery & Pub, Blue Line Brewery, Davidson Brothers, Great Adirondack Brewing Co. and Plattsburgh Brewing Company. This event would not have been so successful without Mark Jessie, who organized brewers and brew. Larkin’s of Tupper Lake provided hor d’oeuvers while Hannaford and Price Chopper donated snacks. A special thanks goes to Sam Huntington, Susan Tehon and Sandra Woods for volunteering.

A big thanks to the following businesses and individuals who donated items for our raffle: ADK Cafe in Keene, Dancing Bears, Country Florist & Gifts in Ticonderoga, Henry Decker of Rhubarb Enterprises, Bob Harsh, Rita Jessie, AuSable Inn in Keene Valley, Seth Lang Photography, Lake Placid Horse Show, Carol Leary, Kathy Merritt, Kathy Miner, Marie Orlando, Suzanne Orlando, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Cheryl Schiller, Darlene Spinner, The Market in Lake Placid and The Wild Center in Tupper Lake.

Thank you for making this event successful!
