TUPPER LAKE – Virginia Strasser, 90, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Mercy Living Center where she had resided for a short time.
Born Nov. 4, 1922, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of Vernon and Stella (Dawdy) Yahrous. Virginia was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo. In 1948, she married Robert Strasser in Buffalo and raised two children there: Sally Strasser and Peter Strasser. While in Buffalo, she worked for many years at the Red Cross, giving service to military families.
In 1986, Robert and Virginia retired to Florida and spent many happy years there until his death in 1995. She moved to Tupper Lake in 2006 to be close to her children. Virginia was a creative person and enjoyed any type of drawing and painting, dance, gardening, cooking wonderful food and enjoying company of family and friends when she entertained.
At Don Smith’s Apartments, she could frequently be seen tending to the flowers outside.
She is survived by her children: Peter and Sally; her dear friend Melissa Godin; niece Robin Hinken and her husband Barry; her grandchild Matt Dickey and his partner Rebecca McNeilley; their son and her great-grandchild, Jack Dickey; grandson Marcan Dickey; as well as a host of caretakers and friends from Tupper Lake
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister-in-law Betty Beier.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mercy Living Center and especially Melissa Godin and her family for their support in her final days. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11 at St. Alphonsus Church with the Rev. Father O’Reilly celebrating.
