Wonderful care from AMC, hospice

To the editor:

Sadly, just a very short time ago my siblings and I lost our dad to pancreatic cancer. The weeks leading up to his death were some of the most difficult times any of us have ever faced. However, there were many very special people that helped us every step of the way, and we are forever grateful for their constant care and kindness.

We would like to thank all of the nurses who cared for my dad round-the-clock during his stay at Adirondack Medical Center. He loved the fact that you all doted on him, and he mentioned several times that he knew he was in good hands there. Even after my dad left the hospital, the nurses still called us daily to see if we needed anything and just to let us know that they were there if we needed them. Thank you to all the doctors/hospitalists who checked on him daily, and a very special thank-you to Dr. Abodeely who, as soon as my dad showed up at the hospital, took him on as his patient and was there constantly and did everything he could for my dad until there was nothing more he could do. We all agree that he is an exceptional doctor and just an exceptional young man overall. And to Dr. Johnson who visited our dad at his home – we thought the days of doctors making house calls were long gone, but Dr. Johnson cared enough to do it even though he had a busy schedule and was getting to ready to go on vacation!

Last but not least, thank you to High Peaks Hospice. You are all some of the most amazing people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. All of the nurses and Pastor Jeff Gray (and his associate, Pastor Ryan Schneider from the Baptist Church in Lake Placid) were LITERALLY there every single day leading us, guiding us and, most of all, encouraging us!

We are amazed by the kindness and care that we received from every medical professional at AMC and hospice and just from people throughout our community during this difficult time. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all. We could never have gotten through it without you!
