Tupper man sentenced to year in prison for pot sale

TUPPER LAKE – A local 23-year-old was sentenced to a year in state prison for selling marijuana.

Cory Nadeau, of Tupper Lake, was originally charged with second-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a class D felony, but he pleaded guilty in April to the same charge in the third degree, a class E felony.

He was sentenced Monday in Franklin County Court to one year in state prison with one year of post-release supervision.

Village police, who arrested Nadeau on the charge in June 2012, said the felony charge wasn’t due to the amount of marijuana sold, which is often how the level of a drug charge is decided. They said they didn’t have a record of how much pot he sold.

Police said the charge was instead determined because the girl Nadeau sold the marijuana to was under 18, though they didn’t have a record of her exact age.
