Saranac Lake chamber of commerce honors ArtWorks, Keough, Stevens

SARANAC LAKE – After many years of surprise revelations of its award winners at its Annual Dinner, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announced them in advance Tuesday, a week ahead of the event.

The Business of the Year prize goes to Saranac Lake ArtWorks, Ron Keough is Citizen of the Year, and Craig Stevens is Volunteer of the Year.

Here is what chamber officials wrote about each of the winners.

Business of the Year: Saranac Lake ArtWorks

“Saranac Lake ArtWorks represents and markets the arts community, takes a stand on issues involving arts and provides exhibit opportunities, classes and workshops to its 40 members. Their robust events schedule includes monthly exhibit openings at several galleries throughout the Saranac Lake area, the Cabin Fever Film Festival, the 3rd Thursday ArtWalks, the Adirondack Plein Air Festival, Hobofest, and the Artist at Work Studio Tour. Proceeds from several of their events are donated to community causes. The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce, congratulate and thank ArtWorks for nurturing and promoting arts in the Saranac Lake area as it provides true economic impact to our community.”

Citizen of the Year: Ron Keough

“The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Ron Keough as the 2012-2013 Citizen of the Year. Mr. Keough, a native of Saranac Lake, was the owner of Keough & Son Funeral Home for 34 years and is now a member of Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Ron has held many elected positions including Franklin County Coroner, Town of Harrietstown Councilman and representative for the 1980 Olympic and Empire State Games; and is currently serving on the Assessment Department Committee, as well as the Building and Grounds Committee. His volunteer efforts have been endless over the years to include the local Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Elks Club, Winter Carnival Committee, Knights of Columbus, the Adult Center, LIFT: For Widowed Persons, Red Cross, Cancer Society, Chamber of Commerce, Ecumenical Council, St. Bernard’s Parish, Franklin County Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, coach for Little League and Pee Wee Hockey and a member of numerous other community committees. Thank you, Ron Keough, for your continued compassion and dedication for the betterment of the Saranac Lake community.”

Volunteer of the Year: Craig Stevens

“The Winner of the 2012-2013 Volunteer of the Year is Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s own Craig Stevens. 2012-2013 was an exciting year for SLACC, and President Craig Stevens was there to pave the way. During a six-month period when the Chamber was unstaffed, Craig spent countless volunteer hours in the Chamber office, ensuring day-to-day business ran smoothly, all the while attending to his full-time position as the VP of Commercial Banking at Community Bank, N.A. Craig is also an active member of the Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club and the Adirondack Housing Board. Thank you, Craig Stevens, for your endless devotion to the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.”

Annual Dinner

After being postponed earlier due to inclement weather, the chamber’s 92nd Annual Dinner will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Tail o’ the Pup in Ray Brook.
