Lightning blasts Mountain Lake PBS off air

PLATTSBURGH – Mountain Lake PBS’ signal went off the air Tuesday night after a lighting strike at its transmitter site on Lyon Mountain.

Then today, at approximately 9:30 a.m., lightning struck the transformers that provide the power to the station’s broadcast tower, causing them to catch fire. At this time, Mountain Lake PBS and the other organizations that rent tower space are without power.

The extreme weather conditions of the past few days have made the remote tower site difficult to access, but a crew is reportedly on the way to assess the situation, Mountain Lake PBS officials said in a press release today.

Mountain Lake PBS’ signal is still available on Charter Cable, but all other cable and over-the-air viewers are affected.
