Elks Lodge distributing reflective vests for youths

SARANAC LAKE – Last July, Saranac Lake Lodge No. 1508 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks applied for and received a Promise Grant of $2,000 from the Elks National Foundation.

The lodge used the money for its Red Ribbon Week activities, First Night activities and the After Prom Party.

The final project involving this grant is a Night Visibility Safety Project. The lodge has purchased 100 reflective vests to distribute to children and teens who work, play, walk or run along or near highways when lighting conditions are not good. Members of the lodge will be distributing vests from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Kinney Drugs in Saranac Lake.

Anyone who knows of a young person who might benefit from having one of these vests is encouraged to send them to Kinney Drugs that day or come and pick one out for them. There are four different styles and several different sizes.

The lodge also plans to visit the Saranac Lake Youth Center and the Summer Youth Program. The lodge tentatively plans to distribute vests at the Youth Program on July 17.
