Summer Bartok Concert Series dates
SARANAC LAKE – Historic Saranac Lake announced a summer line-up of three summer concerts at Cobble Spring Farm to support the Bartok Cabin in Saranac Lake.
On Thursday, July 18, youthful musicians from the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music in their fourth appearance at CSF. These young string players from all over the world, who are the future great solo and orchestral players, have thrilled past audiences with their performances. They will present a program of string quartets, including a Bartok Quartet.
Two programs in August are scheduled as a celebratory mini-festival recognizing the publication of the article on Bartok in Harper’s Magazine. The author of the article will be summering in the area with his family and will be a special guest at one of the August programs.
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the public is invited to attend a piano recital by Eugene Sirotkine. A St. Petersburg-born conductor and pianist, Mr. Sirotkine was an assistant conductor and assistant chorus master with the New York Metropolitan Opera from 1999 through 2008. He is the director of the Hudson Valley Singers and the New York Metamorphoses Orchestra. He has conducted, among many other orchestras, the Hong Kong Philharmonic; the Symphony Orchestra UN Cuyo in Argentina, the National Symphony Orchestra in Brazil; the Cape Philharmonic and the Cape Town Opera in South Africa. He is often featured as a piano soloist, conducting from the keyboard.
On Thursday, Aug. 8, there will be a piano recital and presentation by Sylvia Parker. Ms. Parker is a music faculty member at the University of Vermont, where she teaches piano and music theory. She performs locally, nationally, and internationally.
Her presentation includes pictures, stories, recordings of Bartok playing, and Parker’s performance of some his most engaging works. Parker offers the historic sound of the peasants of Transylvania singing and playing their bagpipes, flutes and fiddles on Bartok’s field recordings. She presents photos and first hand accounts of Bartok’s summer in Vermont.
Seating is limited. Reservations are required. Call Historic Saranac Lake at 518-891-4606 for reservations and directions to the venue.
Concerts begin at 7:30 pm.
A donation of $20 at the door is suggested to support our work to preserve the Barto cabin and the story of Bartok in Saranac Lake.
