North Elba board supports Lake Flower hotel project
SARANAC LAKE – The North Elba town board registered its support for the Lake Flower hotel project at the board’s Tuesday night meeting.
Town Supervisor Roby Politi wrote a letter supporting the state Consolidated Funding Application for the project, which would raze three motels on Lake Flower and build a 90-room, upscale hotel there.
“Saranac Lake is in desperate need of quality lodging facilities given the over flow of demand from the Lake Placid market,” Politi wrote. “In addition, the revitalization of this section of the community will prove most beneficial to the growth and expansion of North Country Community College.”
Politi said at Tuesday night’s town board meeting, held at the Saranac Lake Town House on River Street, near where the hotel would be built, that he bets there were around 15,000 people in Lake Placid over the weekend for its annual lacrosse tournament, which he said is growing significantly every year. Many of those people probably had to find rooms in Saranac Lake, Politi said.
He said redevelopment is essential for growth.
“It’s a new energy within the community,” Politi said. “It’s nothing but a good thing.”
Town Councilman Derek Doty called the project “very exciting for this end of the town.”
