To the editor:
The goalposts are put away, the fields are cleaned up, and our muscles and bones are almost healed. Another amazing rugby weekend has successfully been enjoyed by players, families and spectators. Each year the Can Am Rugby tournament seems to get a little bit bigger and a little bit better. Aug. 2 to 4 marked the 40th tournament, and were it not for the support of local individuals and businesses, it would not have been the best tournament yet. The tournament board – Jay Annis, Nichole Meyette, Tony Elrod, Pat Giblin, Dave Staszak, Jeff Letson and Cam Moody – would like to thank the following individuals and businesses for their support and involvement in a truly spectacular weekend:
Our tournament sponsors: Saratoga Eagle and Labatt Blue Light, Nice ‘n’ Easy, Big D Fuel, Spencer Boatworks, Coca-Cola and Rugby Athletics.
Sponsors of the quad rugby game: North Country Community College, St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers, and Coca-Cola.
The many individuals who gave their time, effort and energy: Johnny Muldowney for coordinating the volunteers, and all of the volunteers throughout the weekend, Mayor Clyde Rabideau and the village of Saranac Lake, including the Department of Public Works, Vernon James and the Saranac Lake Central School District, Lake Placid Central School District, Saranac Lake Police Department, Lake Placid Police Department, New York State Troopers, the chamber of commerce, SLV-EMT, Jan Plumadore, Betty Little, Charlie Whitson and the town of St. Armand, the Knights of Columbus, Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department, Butch Martin and North Elba Parks District, Roby Politi, the village of Lake Placid and North Elba town board, Mike Ritchie and the Saranac Lake Civic Center, the 5th Quarter Club, Shipman Youth Center, Fred Roedel, Eric Wilson, J.R. Owens, Pati Peebles, Geoff Sanford, Pat McGuire and Verizon Wireless and Bucky Hayes.
We appreciate the businesses that support and provide great services year after year: Ken and Trish Fontana and Blue Moon Cafe, Compass Printing, Loremans, Adirondack Daily Enterprise, Ted Morgan and Y106.3, 105.5, 1240 AM and 101.5, Pete Donnelly, Trudeau Sand and Gravel, Sturdy Supply, Foster’s, Scott Cook and Captain Cook’s Bar and Grill, Paul Smith’s College for housing the referees, Fred and Susan Meuller and Adirondack Motel, Edie and Joe Standish and Amanda’s Village Motel, the businesses that supported the shuttle between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid – Best Western, Gauthier’s Saranac Lake Inn and Dew Drop’s Grill – and the youngest entrepreneurs in Saranac Lake, the Catania lemonade stand.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support. We look forward to another great year in 2014.
