Village Improvement Society re-dedicates Vest Pocket Park

SARANAC LAKE – The Village Improvement Society of Saranac Lake will re-dedicate Vest Pocket Park adjacent to the Saranac Lake Free Library at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The ceremony will take place at the park which recently received upgrades of new sod, plantings and beautifully refurbished benches. VIS invites the community to attend the brief dedication ceremony, which will take place rain or shine.

Vest Pocket Park is one of seven VIS-owned parks maintained by a handful of dedicated volunteers.

A generous supporter of the VIS has financed the work on the benches, which will be re-dedicated in honor of Clara W. Ridenour, mother of past VIS park chairperson, Alice Wareham, and a former secretary for VIS as well. VIS President Bobbie Karp will deliver remarks describing the important role that many volunteers such as Wareham and her mother have had in shaping VIS. Jeff Lacomb who refurbished the benches will also be recognized for his assistance, as well as long-time volunteer and friend to VIS, Nancy Murphy, who helped coordinate the bench work.

VIS volunteers serve a vital role in beautifying the community of Saranac Lake, maintaining community parks and preserving our rich historical legacy for future generations.
