NEH grants awarded to college, Fort Ticonderoga
TICONDEROGA (AP) – Fort Ticonderoga is one of just two institutions in New York state to receive a federal grant for history workshops for school teachers.
Officials at the tourist attraction and historic site in the eastern Adirondacks say the fort has been awarded a $173,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Fort Ticonderoga will use the funding to host two weeklong American history and culture workshops for 80 school teachers next summer.
The teachers will learn about the fort’s strategic role on the Northern Frontier during the American Revolution.
The State University of New York Research Foundation based at SUNY-Brockport is also getting an NEH grant. The college west of Rochester will get $157,000 to host two one-week workshops examining the region’s key role in 19th-century American reform movements, including abolition and women’s rights.
