Top-ranked Eagles down Lake Placid

CHAZY – The Lake Placid boys soccer team suffered its first Northern Soccer League defeat of the season Tuesday, dropping a 3-0 decision against Chazy.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard early when Gage Ducatte took a pass from Josh Barriere for a goal 56 seconds into the game. The teams battled for the rest of the first half without another goal.

Barriere gave Chazy a 2-0 lead at the 4:41 mark of the second half and Alex Rabideau put the game out of reach with a goal four minutes later.

Chazy, the defending Class D champion, is the top-ranked team in the state. Lake Placid, ranked No. 16, is 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league games.

Chris Kordziel stopped eight shots in goal for the Blue Bombers. Chazy outshot Lake Placid 16-5.

PLATTSBURGH – The Plattsburgh volleyball team got past Lake Placid on Tuesday with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-14 victory.

Taylor Maiorca had eight service points, two aces and four assists, Jordyn Santana had three blocks and Matoaka Riedle had seven digs to lead the Blue Bombers.

Lida Jivitski registered 14 points, six aces and three kills and Kianna Dragoon collected 12 points, three aces, 13 assists and three kills to pace the Hornets.

BEEKMANTOWN – Nina Armstrong and Gabby Armstrong took the top two spots in the girls race Tuesday as the Blue Bombers took on Beekmantown and AuSable Valley in dual meets.

Nina Armstrong, a junior, won the race in 20 minutes, 39 seconds. Her sister Gabby, a freshman, recorded the same time.

Karl Schultz was Lake Placid’s top boys runner, placing second in 17:07. Colin Quackenbush of Beekmantown was the first-place finisher in 17:04.

Lake Placid’s Trent White took 11th in 18:59, while teammate Forest Ledger was 12th in 19:00.

Beekmantown won both of its dual meets.

CHAMPLAIN – Max Paul placed 12th in the boys meet and Anna Izzo was 13th in the girls meet to lead the Saranac Lake cross country teams on Tuesday.

Paul covered the course in 20:45, while Izzo crossed the line in 23:14.

Zach LePage of Saranac won the boys race in 18:30, followed by four of his teammates in the top five.

Mari Remillard of Peru was the top girls runner, finishing in 21:09.
