SLHS music teachers are grateful

To the editor:

The onset of this new academic year offers us the perfect moment to reflect on all of the positive aspects of our school community and, indeed, the community at large. Here in the high school Music Department, we are keenly aware of and thankful for the tremendous outpouring of support continuously offered to us by the members of the Saranac Lake community. Attendance at concerts, assistance with fundraising and logistical details surrounding the musical, help with student transportation to special musical events, and the frequency of encouraging comments spread throughout the community are just a few ways in which our department and our students directly benefit from the long-standing tradition of artistic support in this lovely mountain town.

On a more specific note, the students and faculty of the high school Music Department wish to express our sincere and deepest gratitude to two local organizations – Tops Friendly Markets and McDonald’s Restaurant – which recently made sizable monetary contributions to the department that will enable us to continue innovative programming, engaging performances of new repertoire and afford students an opportunity to experience musical art forms in the community and beyond.

A still broader understanding of these donations hits at the core of our gratitude: We live in a community that acutely perceives and understands the need for musical expression as an integral part of the curriculum for all students, and acts to ensure the continuation of this deeply rooted support, financially and otherwise. Please know of the profound impact such demonstrations of support have in the lives of our young citizens and will continue to have on them throughout their adult lives. We are deeply indebted and feel truly blessed.

In deepest gratitude,
