Kurtz to celebrate 25 years of photos

SARANAC LAKE – A little over 25 years ago, photographer Mark Kurtz heard that the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce was looking for submissions for a replacement for the cover image on their brochure. One of his photos was chosen and that was the start of Mark Kurtz Photography.

Since then, he’s shot a few hundred thousand photos here in the Adirondacks, around the country and in a couple places in other parts of the world.

Mark Kurtz Photography will present a special exhibition in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The 10-day only exhibit will be at 5 Broadway, in downtown Saranac Lake (across from the Berkley Green), opening with a reception from 4to 7 p.m. Friday. The work will be on display through Oct. 7.

“I’m using this opportunity to introduce my new book project ‘New York squared,’ Kurtz said.

On display will be several large prints (40 inch by 40 inch) from this work-in-progress, as well as a few prototype books of my images of New York City, many of which are new. These images are all made with the Holga camera, something Kurtz has been working with for 15 years or so.
