Army’s Ft. Drum to deploy 600-plus to Afghanistan

FORT DRUM (AP) – Department of Defense officials say they’re planning to deploy about 630 members of the 10th Mountain Division’s headquarters at Fort Drum to Afghanistan.

The 10th Mountain personnel are among six Army units to be deployed this winter as part of a rotation of forces in the war-torn country.

Army troops from Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Carson, Colo., Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Bragg, N.C. also will be deployed and be part of the rotation of forces.

Tuesday’s announcement came the same day that 300 soldiers in the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Team arrived at Fort Drum from Afghanistan and as 2,000 members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team start their deployment to the country.

The 10th Mountain has been among the most deployed units in the Army.
