Cougars score 3 in second half to drop Red Storm
CHAMPLAIN – The Northeastern Clinton boys soccer team scored all its goals in the second half on the way to a 3-0 Northern Soccer League victory over Saranac Lake on Thursday.
Austin Tetreault broke a scoreless tie at the 7:38 mark of the second half on a pass from Brendan Boutin. Garrett Begore scored 10 minutes later for a 2-0 Cougars lead and Tetreault put the game away with a goal at 24:55.
Oliver Holmes had nine saves for the Red Storm, while Brady Vassar stopped six in goal for Northeastern Clinton. NCCS outshot Saranac Lake 17-7.
It was the second loss in a row for the Red Storm, who dropped to 5-2 with the defeat.
Saranac Lake returns to action Monday at home against Beekmantown.
Northeastern Clinton 3, Lake Placid 0
LAKE PLACID – The Northeastern Clinton volleyball team downed Lake Placid 24-18-25-14, 25-9 on Thursday night.
Brenna Garrett led the way for the Blue Bombers with six kills and four service points. Teammate Taylor Maiorca chipped in nine assists, while Ally Wallace contributed two aces, two digs and three points.
Gabrielle Vasquez paced the Cougars with 15 digs and four aces, while teammate Ellen Reid had 11 points and seven kills.
Saranac 3, Saranac Lake 0
SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac volleyball team got the better of Saranac Lake on Thursday, walking away with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-23 victory.
Crystal Plowe Sovey filled the scoresheet for the Red Storm with four aces, four assists, seven service points and one kill. Olivia Atkinson and Abbi Kirollos each had two aces, two digs and two points, while Brittany Woodruff had six digs and Samantha Martin had three aces, six digs and three points. Ellen Miner chipped in three kills and three points.
Abby Monty led the way for the Chiefs with 15 points, eight aces and two kills, while teammate Anna Dorrance had 12 points, four aces and seven assists.
