Chiefs continue to roll through NSL

SARANAC – The Saranac girls soccer team continued its dominance of the Northern Soccer League Division I on Thursday with a 6-0 victory over Saranac Lake.

The win locked up the Division I regular season championship for the Chiefs.

Saranac outshot the Red Storm 30-7. Jenny Ward and Sheila Decker combined to make eight saves for Saranac Lake.

Kayla Napper had two goals and an assist and Summer Gillespie contributed a goal and two assists to pace the Chiefs. Saranac scored three goals in each half.

Northern Adirondack 3, Lake Placid 0

ELLENBURG – The Lake Placid girls soccer team’s defense held strong Thursday against Northern Adirondack, but eventually had to settle for a 3-0 Northern Soccer League Division II defeat.

The Bobcats held a distinct advantage in shots take with a 22-3 margin. Emily Barney made 17 saves for the Blue Bombers.

Northern Adirondack took a 1-0 lead 11:45 into the first half when Elle Warick found the back of the net. The Bobcats piled on in the second half with goals by Rachael Venne in the 12th minute and Danya Burl in the 34th minute.

Lake Placid fell to 3-5-1 with the loss.


Peru 3, Saranac Lake 0

PERU – The Saranac Lake volleyball team put up a fight in the opening game, but then Peru started to roll on the way to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 victory on Thursday.

Brittany Woodruff racked up five digs, three aces and five service points and Samantha Martin had three aces four digs and three points to lead the way for the Red Storm. Teammate Katie Burgess chipped in three digs and one kill.

Taylor Higgins paced Peru with eight kills and four aces, while teammate Maddie Kaplan had five aces, six kills and three digs.

Northern Adirondack 3, Lake Placid 0

ELLENBURG – The Lake Placid volleyball team dropped a 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 loss to Northern Adirondack on Thursday.

Zoey Varin had seven kills and MacKenzie Fountain contributed eight assists for NAC.
