Tornado watch issued for much of upstate NY

ALBANY (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch and high wind advisories for much of upstate New York, where some gusts could top 50 mph.

The weather service says the tornado watch is in effect until 5 p.m. today from the western Finger Lakes region eastward to the New England and from the Adirondacks south to the New York City area.

Forecasters say showers and possible thunderstorms will be accompanied by 20- to 30-mph winds that could gust to 50 to 55 mph in some areas. Some thunderstorms may contain tornadoes or damaging winds.
